Our plants grow in a clean, soil-free mix fed with measured water and nutrients, inside a greenhouse that keeps most pests out. That's why we don't need pesticide sprays.

Questions people ask us
Do I have to pay for installation?
Not during our launch sale. Installation by our team is usually A$300, and right now it's free with any greenhouse. If you're handy, you can also set it up yourself with our step-by-step guide.
How much space do I need?
Less than most people think, because the racks stack planters upwards. The small greenhouse suits a courtyard or small backyard, and the large one a family backyard. We measure your space at the free site visit and recommend the size that fits.
I've never grown anything. Will this work for me?
Yes. The system waters and feeds the plants for you, and the app tells you in plain words when something needs doing. Our growers are a message away if you get stuck.
Is the food organic?
Our food is spray-free: we never use pesticide sprays. In Australia, certified organic produce must be grown in soil, so hydroponically grown food can't be called organic, even when no chemicals are sprayed. We'd rather be precise than use a label that doesn't apply.
What can I grow?
Leafy greens and herbs grow best and fastest: lettuce, basil, parsley, mint, coriander and more. Cherry tomatoes, strawberries, eggplant and other fruiting plants grow well too. We suggest a planting plan for each season.
What happens when I go away?
The system keeps watering and feeding your plants while you're gone, and the app alerts you if something needs attention. If your crops are ready while you're away, a neighbour gets a nice surprise.
Does it need power and water?
Yes, a standard power point and access to a garden tap nearby. The pump and sensors use little power, and water is recirculated rather than drained away. We check both at the site visit.
Do I need council approval?
Small backyard greenhouses are often exempt from a building permit, but rules vary between councils and depend on size and position. We check your council's rules for your site before installing.
What if I grow more than I can eat?
We're setting up a way for households to sell surplus produce through a distribution partner. We'll tell members as soon as it's ready.

Why we started VegTech
Lots of people want to grow food at home. Few manage it for long. Plants need the right water, nutrients and conditions every day, and it's easy to get it wrong.
So we combined a proper greenhouse, grow racks, sensors and smart software into one service. We install it, help you choose what to plant and stay with you as it grows. The technology does the daily checking. You do the picking.
We started with households in Melbourne, and we're growing into childcare centres, aged care homes and restaurants.

Privacy policy

This policy explains how VegTech Pty Ltd ("VegTech", "we", "us") handles personal information. We follow the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), whether or not the Act applies to a business of our size.
1. What we collect
Contact details: your name, email, phone number, suburb and postcode, and business name if you give one.
Site visit and installation details: your address, notes and photos of the space where the greenhouse may go, and access instructions.
Customer account details: your quote, purchase, billing history and messages with us. Card payments are handled by our payment provider; we do not store full card numbers.
Greenhouse data: readings from the sensors in your greenhouse, such as water level, nutrients, temperature and humidity, and how you use the app. If you use camera features once they are available, this includes photos of your plants.
We don't ask for sensitive information such as health details. Please don't include it in messages to us.
2. How we collect it
Mostly directly from you: when you fill in our website form, call or email us, have a site visit, buy a greenhouse or use the app. Sensor data is collected automatically from equipment we install, once you are a customer.
You can deal with us without giving your name when you ask a general question. We need contact details to book a visit or provide a service.
3. How we use it
To reply to you and arrange your site visit.
To quote, install, maintain and support your greenhouse.
To run the app, send alerts and growing advice, and supply seedlings and nutrients.
To bill you and manage your agreement.
To improve our growing guides, software and AI models. Where we use greenhouse data for this, we remove details that identify you, or combine it with other customers' data.
To meet our legal obligations.
We don't sell your personal information.
4. Who we share it with
We share only what's needed, with:
installers and trades who work on your greenhouse for us;
service providers who run our systems, such as website hosting (Netlify), form delivery to our inbox (FormSubmit), email, cloud storage, payment processing and accounting;
a produce distribution partner, only if you choose to sell surplus produce once that service starts, and only with your agreement;
professional advisers, insurers, or authorities where the law requires it.
Our providers may only use your information to do work for us.
5. Storage overseas
Some of our providers store data outside Australia, including in the United States. Before using a provider, we take reasonable steps to make sure it protects personal information to a standard consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles.
6. Cookies and website data
This website does not use advertising or analytics cookies, and it doesn't load tracking scripts or fonts from other companies. Our host, Netlify, keeps standard server logs, which include IP addresses, to run and secure the site. If we add analytics in future, we'll update this policy first.
7. Marketing
We'll only send you news or offers if you've agreed to it or if you're a customer and the message relates to your service. Every marketing email includes a way to unsubscribe, or you can ask us to stop at any time.
8. Security and retention
We protect personal information with access controls, encryption in transit, and accounts protected by strong passwords and multi-factor authentication where available. We keep information for as long as we need it for the purposes above and for legal and tax record-keeping, then delete it or remove details that identify you. Enquiries that don't go ahead are deleted after 24 months.
If a data breach is likely to cause you serious harm, we'll tell you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) as the law requires.
9. Access and correction
You can ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it. Email us and we'll respond within 30 days. We may need to confirm your identity first. If we can't give you access, we'll explain why.
10. Complaints
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, contact us first and we'll try to fix it within 30 days. If you're not satisfied, you can complain to the OAIC at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as our service changes. The date at the top shows when it last changed. Significant changes will be emailed to customers.
These terms apply when you use vegtech.io (the "website"), run by VegTech Pty Ltd ("VegTech", "we", "us"). By using the website you agree to them. If you buy a greenhouse, your purchase and installation are covered by the written quote and customer terms you accept at the time.

We work to keep the website accurate and current. Its content is general information and isn't tailored advice for your property. How much you can grow depends on your space, the season, your local conditions and how you look after your plants.
Features shown as "in development" are not yet available, and we can't promise when they'll launch.
2. Prices and offers
Prices are in Australian dollars. Prices and availability can change, and a price on the website isn't an offer we're bound to accept. Your price is confirmed in writing before you pay, and becomes binding when you accept our quote. Launch sale prices and free installation are available for a limited time and may end without notice; the offer that applies is the one in your written quote.
3. Your consumer rights
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or changes any right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law or any other law that can't be excluded.
4. Using the website
You agree not to:
use the website for anything unlawful, or in a way that harms the website or other people;
send false information through our forms, or submit someone else's details without their permission;
try to access systems or data you're not allowed to;
copy large parts of the website, or scrape it with automated tools.
5. Our content
The text, photos, logos, graphics and design on this website belong to VegTech or are used with permission. All photos of greenhouses and plants are our own. You may view and share pages for personal, non-commercial use. Please ask us before using our content for anything else.
6. Links to other websites
We may link to other websites for your information. We don't control them and aren't responsible for their content or privacy practices.
7. Liability
To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for loss arising from your use of the website or reliance on its general information, and the website is provided without warranties beyond those the law requires. Where our liability can be limited but not excluded, it's limited to supplying the relevant service again or paying the cost of having it supplied again.
